Our not-so-extreme makeover

We’re making a few changes here in The Latin Americanist that should make it more enjoyable to read. They include:

1- Updating the blog’s format which should hopefully make it less messy and easier to read. So far we’ve updated the archives and the comment feed and we hope to take care of the following in the upcoming days:

· List several lectures, art exhibits, concerts, etc. under our “Events” page.

· Remove several dead links from our “Links & Organizations” page.

· Create a blogroll of sites related to Latin America.

Therefore, we urge you to please contact us if you have events that you would like us to mention or if you wish to be included on our blogroll. (For better or worse, most of the events that are e-mailed to us are located in New York City and we would like to go beyond that. Also, our preliminary blogroll list is short and we would like to expand it).

2- In terms of content, we’ll continue posting about different news stories that have taken place in Latin America and the Caribbean. Starting this week, however, we will also have a daily feature revolving around a specific theme:

· Monday – Weekly Debate [e.g. the “war on drugs”, immigration, Bush vs. Chavez]

· Tuesday – “Titulares de las Americas” [news headlines from the Spanish-speaking media in Latin America]

· Wednesday – “Wild Card Wednesday” [an open weekly slot where there will be personal commentary or a poll or perhaps contests much like this one]

· Thursday – Book, Film, or TV Review

· Friday – “Music Soothes the Savage Beast” [several MP3 files of Latin American musicians much like in this post]

3- Finally, I want to repeat the plea I made last week and invite readers to enter submissions or become contributors to The Latin Americanist. For all intents and purposes this blog has become a one-man show; even though working on this blog has been a personal labor of love, it is increasingly taking more of my personal time and energy to run this blog. Therefore, any help would be much appreciated.

Don’t forget our e-mail address which is ourlatinamerica@yahoo.com . Please don’t hesitate to send us any feedback!

But Erwin, we think you are a talent writer, a excellent thinker with a classy sense of humor and great taste in music. We don’t want anyone else. : )

Thank you. That was quite touching.

What can I say- better to be hard at work than hardly working!
