Guatemalan police under scrutiny due to corruption

-Contributed by Erwin Cifuentes. Approximately three thousand of the nineteen thousand members of Guatemala’s police force are under investigation for corruption, according to the country’s Interior Minister. The accusations range from demanding bribes to theft. (CNN)

stories like this remind me of the scene from the movie "casablanca," where the police chief enters rick's bar and says: "I am shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!"

wasn't that claude rains?

but still, it's nice to see that the policia chapines are finally under some scrutiny . . . whether it will result in any real reform is anyone's guess.
