Daily Headlines: November 12, 2010

* Latin America: Mexican pop group Camila and Dominican tropical music star Juan Luis Guerra each won three awards at last night’s Latin Grammy Awards.

* El Salvador: A U.S. judge awarded $1.7 million to the family of a deceased Salvadoran immigrant whose deadly cancer was left untreated by prison authorities.

* Costa Rica: President Laura Chinchilla warned that she could take her country’s border dispute with Nicaragua to the International Court of Justice if a resolution is not reached soon.

* Dominican Republic: Local health officials announced new guidelines in order to prevent the spread of cholera from neighboring Haiti.

* South America: Host country Argentina was drawn in a relatively easy group for next year’s Copa America while Group C could be a tight race between Uruguay, Chile, and Mexico.

* Bolivia: Japan's state-run energy firm signed a deal to conduct research at Bolivia’s vast lithium reserves.

Daily Headlines: September 18, 2009

* Latin America: Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Calle 13 received a leading five Latin Grammy nominations while Caetano Veloso, Ricardo Arjona, and Babasonicos were among those with multiple nominations.

* Chile: The Chilean judge who indicted the late strongman Augusto Pinochet will run for a Senate seat against the son of an ex-president and a former presidential candidate.

* Guatemala: Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil pledged to send aid to combat the severe food shortage in Guatemala.

* Venezuela: Could coffee become the next industry to be formally nationalized by the Chavez administration in Venezuela?

Today’s Video: Juanes triumphs at Latin Grammys

Wow:
Juanes has completed a sweep at the Latin Grammys in Houston by taking record of the year honors.

By winning the top honor, the Colombian rocker brought his total for the night to five, including trophies for song of the year, album of the year, best male pop vocal album and best short form music video.
We’ll have more on the Latin Grammys tomorrow; in the meantime, let’s turn back the clock to last March and watch Juanes’ performance at the Paz Sin Fronteras ("Peace Without Borders") concert:
