World Cup: Brazil bounced out by fab France

The reign of Brazil as World Cup champs ended yesterday after losing 1-0 in the quarterfinals against France. Thierry Henry scored the game’s lone goal in the 58th minute off a free kick by Zinedine Zedane, who scored two goals the last time both of these teams met in a World Cup in the 1998 final. Brazil had few scoring opportunities during the match, though their closest chance came late in the game when Ronaldinho curled a free kick mere inches above the crossbar. Along with Argentina’s loss yesterday the World Cup semifinals will be an all-European affair for the first time since 1982.

Brazil is now out of the tournament and their Hexa mission has been delayed for the next four years. Though Brazil is the present world champion but it was really hard to find in the field that which team is world champion. Zidane showed that he is not old; he is like a player who been selected just before the world cup as if a player got the prize for playing well in the youth championship like Messi. A lot of magic are still stored in his leg and body with the ball and it is impossible to say that this world cup is going to be his last world cup. It is also the last world cup for Roberto Carlos, Ronal do and Kafu who were the soldiers of many battle of Brazil. European teams may feel some relief as both the Latin power has gone from the world cup.

Brazil never seemed to step up and play extraordinary aside from some times against Ghana and Japan. I think they made a big mistake in playing only two international friendlies against far inferior opponents this year before the World Cup began. Their preparation and training was far too lax.

Superior teams show their greatness when they face severe adversity, yet Brazil wilted like a dying flower after Henry scored.

I doubt that any of the European teams feel relief from Argentina and Brazil being eliminated since the remaining teams are all very strong squads that are far from easy to play against.
