Daily Headlines: March 20, 2015

* Colombia: “Look at the irony of life, all my life I spent in the military fighting terrorism…and now in a place totally remote from Colombia it takes my wife and son,” said a retired Colombian army general whose relatives were killed in a museum attack in Tunisia.

* South America: At least ten people were killed in a plane crash in Uruguay while Argentine officials earlier this week identified the remains of a deadly helicopter collision on March 9th.

* Dominican Republic: A Catholic priest identified only as Wojciech G. offered to serve seven years in prison over charges of sexually abusing minors in Poland and the Dominican Republic.

* Ecuador: Thousands of Ecuadorans took to the streets on Thursday in order to march in opposition to a plan that would end term limits for the presidency including current leader Rafael Correa.

* Syria: Three senior military members and close allies to President Bashar al-Assad were killed in a rebel bombing attack.

* Bulgaria: Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, blamed Iran for an explosion of a bus in Bulgaria with Israeli tourists.

* Netherlands: The International Court of Justice in The Hague could soon prosecute the exiled former rulers of Chad and Tunisia.

* World: A new scientific study concluded that a sedentary lifestyle that includes a lack of exercise kills as many people worldwide as smoking does.

* Russia: The landmark “New START” nuclear disarmament treaty between Russia and the U.S. could soon take effect.

World Watch: Moscow massacre

* Russia: Authorities claimed that a suicide bomber was behind a "terrorist attack" at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport that killed at least 35 people on Monday.

* Tunisia: The country’s interim government could enact major cabinet changes in response to demonstrations against the previous regime under recently ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

* Sudan: Preliminary results showed that most voters in southern Sudan want their region to become an independent country.

* Indonesia: Human rights groups are upset with what they believe is a lenient punishment against three Indonesian soldiers convicted of abusing a group of Papuan villagers.
