* Colombia: A statement from the FARC guerrillas demanded “a broad-ranging debate about freedom of information” as a possible condition for the release of kidnapped French journalist Romeo Langlois.
* Chile: President Sebastián Piñera’s approval ratings reached a new low of 26% according to survey results released yesterday.
* U.S.: Authorities have not named any suspects in the death of a Guatemalan-born stable worker who was killed at Churchill Downs on the same day that the Kentucky Derby was held.
* Venezuela: President Hugo Chavez broke his week-long silence and said that he was “fulfilling (his) duties as head of state” despite multiple trips to Cuba for medical treatment.
