According to the linked article the SouthCom chief mentioned the Venezuela-ETA allegations when asked by a Congressional panel.
The main worry ought not to be his response per se but that (based on the article) he contradicted testimony provided by the main State dept. diplomat on LatAm (Arturo Valenzuela). We'll have to wait and see what Spanish investigators find and if the White House or other U.S. officials decide to comment further.
