If the White House were to place as much effort into passing comprehensive immigration reform as they have in constantly delaying it then perhaps our current system wouldn’t be so problematic. Yet according to one report President Obama has spoken to a pair of Senators with the intent of creating a “blueprint” towards reform.As originally reported on Friday in the Los Angeles Times, the president will meet with Democrat Charles E. Schumer of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on Monday. During the meeting they will discus the “basis” for a bipartisan proposal that could legalize the status of some of the near 11 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. Conditions for citizenship would be pretty tough, according to the article, with applicants having “to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation.”
The possible bill would be a good start for a necessary and long overdue reform. Yet Democrats too cowardly to confront reform and Republicans too obstinate in the role as opposition would endanger any proposal:
"Right now we have a little problem with the 'Chicken Little' mentality: The sky is falling and consequently we can't do anything," Rep. Raul M. Grijalva, D-Ariz., told the newspaper.In the meantime, the clock is ticking and the pressure is mounting against those in power to dig their heads out of the sand.
Republicans also said they weren't inclined to cooperate, particularly since Obama signaled this week he would push ahead with passage of a healthcare bill with or without GOP support, the newspaper said.
"The things you hear from the administration won't be well received," Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said.

The funny thing about the people that oppose emigration reform is that they have no idea how valuable all the undocumented workers are to the US economy. Do you like your roma tomatoes at 99 cents a pound? well without these workers you will have to pay $2.99/lb. There are hundreds of examples of how (in the sad sense because they get paid so little) these people do the jobs that "regular" americans would never do.
agree with paul..it's really a big help for the businesses to get a cheaper rates on man power..could they just at least allow to work..at least these people are finding honest ways to make a living unlike some punk in juicy couture hoodie smoking pot
The American Congress may pass one day a Hard and Tough Legislation against "Illegal Aliens" or a soft legislation with some heart against the plight of some people, not all of them "criminals".
And I respect that decision because Congress is an elected body and represents the will of the nation.
But let's see that America is no longer the America that those Great Masters of the Novel described for us :

I beg to readers not to be angry with me, for selecting "Elmer Gantry" as number one movie for explaining America.
I am aware that America is now very diverse, more than in the Prohibition days of 192x when fictional Hypocrite Pastor Elmer Gantry had his adventures with Sister Sharon Falconer.
Sinclair Lewis wrote this novel in 1926. I am aware and realize that America is not 100% protestant now, and that America is not 100% Revivalist or Born Again.
There is more in America than Protestantism or Naive Revivals, with the added spice of Hypocrites like "Elmer Gantry" .... or sincere persons like Sister Sharon Falconer, and very few American Ladies are now Lulus in prostibules, under a Madam.
Sinclair Lewis, the novelist is a genius. He took a snapshot of a REAL BIG FAMILY in America : The White Protestants, very naive in their Revivals, and too generous with their monies.
That America no longer exists but there are buds, shoots of "the good old days" and greenshots like Sarah Palin. Talking to us about the "Real America" and the need to be given back their "America".
