* Fidel Castro officially stepped down as Cuban president this morning according to this article published in Granma. Thus ends a reign of 49 years as Cuba's top leader and his brother, Rail Castro, could take over as head of state. (We’ll discuss this in more detail later today).

I think it will be quite interesting to see the response to Castro's resignation during this evening's news broadcasts. I'd like to see how Cuban Americans feel versus Cuban citizens...
From what i've seen on the Spanish-language news (Univison, CNN en Espanol) the Cuban populace seems to be taking Fidel's resignation with calmness. Cuban Americans have also taken the news calmly though opnions vary over whether the future of Cuba will be more of the same or the beginning of democracy on the island.
