* Over 1000 people have been evacuated near the Baja California coast of Mexico as Tropical Storm Paul nears the mainland.
* Environmentalists in Jamaica worry that bauxite mining- one of the main industries on the island- is seriously damaging the country's flora and fauna.
* Support for Chilean president Michelle Bachelet remains steady around the 50% mark.
