A recent poll showed that the approval ratings for Colombian president Alvaro Uribe slipped to pre-reelection levels. Compared to June his overall approval rating fell 5 points to 72%, while his handling of corruption dipped a whopping 11 points to 61%. The Uribe administration has been hit by several recent scandals including problems with coca eradication, alleged human rights abuses, and corruption in the army. Corruption and problems in Colombia are always going to exist as they exist in all latin american countries.
It is a constant battle with no
end.
The neighboring countries receive
many inmigrants legal and illegal
through the borders,with Venezuela,Ecuador, Brazil and in our Panama.
We are willing to help them...despite of all,we are all latin americans and need to help each other.
On the other hand,it is 8 million dollars in voluntary repatriation of those colombian refugees,Panama
has to give away...sometimes taking the money out of our little national treasure...
Anyway,I am sorry that Colombia's government cannot take care of their own needy people.
The first Uribe administration opted to focus on securty and defense over social issues. Now that his second adminsitration is a few weeks old he has decided to concentrate more on social problems but his proposals are facing increased opposition. It's as if he's trying to take his cake and eat it too (like the saying goes).
