It’s been a very long time since we’ve given away anything on this site. As a “thank you” to our loyal readers we’re holding a really great contest.

Would you be interested in attending one of the special advanced screenings of the newest Harry Potter film “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”? We’re holding a special ticket giveaway where you and three guests can attend a special screening next Monday, July 13th in either New York, Los Angeles, or Miami.

Here are the contest rules:

• Send an e-mail message with the subject title “Harry Potter” to ourlatinamerica@yahoo.com
• In the body of the message please mention which screening you want to attend. (New York, Los Angeles, or Miami.)
• Only one entry per e-mail address so make sure your address is valid!
• We will pick one random address Wednesday morning for each screening location.
• The contest ends tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8:00pm so enter as soon as you can!
  

Additional Prize Terms and Conditions:

• Prize winners may be required to take part in reasonable post-competition publicity for Warner and may be filmed, photographed or otherwise recorded by Warner or other third parties for publicity and he/she consents to the use of his/her personal data for such purposes.
• Prize winners may be required to sign a Prize Acceptance Form before the Prize is awarded. If a Prize winner is under the age of 18 years, a parent or guardian may be required to sign a Prize Acceptance Form before the Prize is awarded.

Hispanic Heritage Book contest!

Hispanic Heritage Month starts this Monday and in honor of it we’re holding a special contest. In conjunction with Hachette Book Group USA we’re going to give away books from authors like Congresswomen Lorena and Loretta Sanchez.

Want to enter the contest? Here is a quick rundown of the rules:

• Two winners will be selected.
• One winner will be chosen randomly and will win one book from Hachette Book Group USA.
• The second prize will be several books and will be awarded to the person who can best write a 300-word (maximum) essay on who is their favorite Hispanic author and why. (The “expert” judging panel will consist of the contributors to this blog).
• Please e-mail all entries to our address at ourlatinamerica@yahoo.com
• Only one entry per e-mail address and please include your name and mailing address.
• Contest only available to residents of the US and Canada (no PO Boxes please). Sorry Europe and Latinoamerica!

José Conde contest ends today!

As we mentioned last week, we’re holding a contest where one lucky randomly-drawn entry will win a free CD of “(R)evolucion” by José Conde y la Ola Fresca.

All you have to do is correctly answer the following question:

On August 9^th José Conde y la Ola Fresca will be in concert in New York City. What two other bands will be playing at that concert?

Contest: Win a José Conde CD!

Several weeks ago we mentioned about José Conde y la Ola Fresca - a New York-based group that plays funky, catchy Latin music. The group recently released a new CD entitled “(R)evolucion” which has received several positive reviews such as the following from the Boston Globe:

“Cuban-American vocalist José Conde is both the lead singer and writer of the arrangements for his New York City-based band, Ola Fresca. That helps explain how the 14 tracks on the band's eclectic new album, "Revolucion," can at once honor the propulsive requirements of the Afro-Cuban form while displaying, in their lyrics and musical choices, a singer-songwriter's individuality and trademark whimsy.”

World Music Central highlights the musical variety in “(R)evolucion”:

“Afro-Cuban vocal phrasing and conga rhythms fit naturally within funk drum, guitar, and horn accents. Cuban music, funk, and consequently Conde’s music are all in “clave.” Afro-Cuban conga, shékere, and bongo are juxtaposed with funk drums, guitar, and B-3 organ to create something new yet rooted in tradition.”
