* Peru: Thirty-six energy workers kidnapped by the Shining Path last week were freed on Saturday though it’s unclear if a ransom was paid to the rebels.
* Mexico: According to poll results released yesterday, ruling party presidential candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota gained 4% support though she is 19% behind frontrunner Enrique Pena Nieto.
* U.S.: Film director Robert Rodriguez said that his new cable television network, El Rey, is expected to launch sometime between September 2013 and January 2014.
* Latin America: Latin America is the top destination for emerging market private equity investors in 2012 according to a global survey of investors.

* Venezuela: President Hugo Chavez said that he would soon return to Cuba for surgery to treat a new lesion in the same area where a cancerous tumor was removed last year.
* Mexico: Unrest broke out once again in the Apodaca prison where forty-four inmates died in a riot over the weekend, while three detainees where reportedly stabbed to death in the Topo Chico prison.
* U.S.: Comcast announced the creation of four new channels including a Latino-oriented network run with input from director Robert Rodriguez.
* Haiti: A U.S. judge said he’ll delay his decision on possibly reducing former Haitian drug lord Jacques Ketant’s 27-year prison sentence by half.

Rodriguez to direct new Barbarella movie
And now you can add a new Barbarella to the list of film directed by Mexican-American director Robert Rodriguez.
Rodriguez agreed to be behind the cameras of a remake of the 1968 cult classic starring Jane Fonda. Said Rodriguez as he was in
“I love this iconic character and all that she represents, and I'm truly excited by the challenge of inviting a new audience into her universe.”
