* Uruguay: Six former Guantanamo detainees could have their public assistance withdrawn as a result of a rift between them and the Uruguayan government.
* Peru: A recent report found that more than five million international tourists traveled to the Peruvian capital of Lima in 2014 and this made it the most visited Latin American city last year.
* Colombia: The alleged recruitment of underage girls for the fugitive leader of the Urabeños criminal organization has highlighted the “ongoing child sexual exploitation in Colombia's gang culture.”
* Puerto Rico: Puerto Rico’s debt woes continue to worsen, which increases the odds of a government default in a few months time.

* Venezuela: Scores of Venezuelans including some looters gathered outside Daka electronics stores after the government seized the chain over alleged price gouging.
* Colombia: Authorities in Spain captured the head of Los Urabeños, a Colombian neo-paramilitary criminal gang involved in narcotrafficking.
* Chile: Forensic exams concluded that no chemical agents were found in the body of acclaimed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda who died under mysterious circumstances in 1973.
* Mexico: Police in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas located sixty-one migrants including ten children residing in "inhumane conditions."

Daily Headlines: February 7, 2013 (UPDATED)
* Chile: The Chilean Navy was ordered to investigate a group of sailors caught on video chanting, “I will kill Argentines, I will shoot Bolivians, I will behead Peruvians.”
Update: A report from the Chilean Navy said that the chant by a group of sailors in Viña del Mar was an "improvised" form of a "typical" song used by the military in training.
The report, which was ordered by the federal government in response to the controversial video, labeled the chant as "offensive" but called for the leader of the chant to be punished rather than the entire group of 27 sailors.
* South America: Police in Peru nabbed the suspected head of Los Urabeños, a Colombian neo-paramilitary criminal gang involve in drug trafficking.
* Cuba: Lack of demand is reportedly to blame for a decline in the number of charter flights between the U.S. and Cuba.
* U.S.: Can Governors Brian Sandoval and Susana Martinez help attract Latino voters to the Republican Party?

* Latin America: A group of 38 mothers from several Central American countries continued their march through Mexico calling for greater government protection for migrants.
* U.S.: According to new government data, unemployment among Latinos rose slightly to 10.0% last month though it’s below the October 2011 Latino unemployment rate of 11.4%.
* Bolivia: The family of a Bolivian radio host attacked and on set on fire have urged authorities to investigate who was the mastermind behind the assault.
* Paraguay: Human rights activists and former political prisoners are upset at plans over repatriating the remains of the late dictator Alfredo Stroessner from Brazil to Paraguay.
