"One of the few female head of states in Latin America"? It's true, if you visit any gathering of
Latin American presidents, you see that men are overrepresented. Still, women are in charge in Argentina and Chile, two of the most important countries in the region. Soon enough, women could be running Costa Rica and Brazil, too.
That's a pretty impressive record, I'd say, particularly compared to the United States.
the next Chilean president will most likely be male. Yet it most certainly is a very impressive record especially if one also examines the Caribbean (e.g. ex-jamaican head Portia Simpson Miller) or looks at recent history (Panama's Mireya Moscoso and Nicaraguan Violeta Chamarro). Even in countries like Ecuador and Haiti women have also served as acting presidents since the early 90s.
