* Brazil’s government will create a new program to subsidize birth control pills, while Mexico’s government is mounting a legal challenge to Mexico City’s abortion law.

* An interchange between imprisoned guerillas and kidnap victims “will always be the best option” said recently rescued Colombian police officer Jhon Frank Pinchao.

* Congrats to Argentine film “XXY” and Mexican actress Elisa Miller for receiving top awards during the Cannes Film Festival.

* In an article published over the weekend in Granma, Fidel Castro blasted U.S. President George W. Bush as "an apocalyptic person."

* Coca-Cola was levied with a $1 million fine for monopolistic practices in Mexico.

* Follow-up #1: Opposition in Venezuela and Haiti is mounting against the Chavez administration’s financing of two Danny Glover films.

* Follow-up #2: Miss Japan won last night’s Miss Universe pageant despite several Latin American contestants as favorites and some classless jeering from the crowd.

I always find it amusing that jeering someone who is living a great life, competing in some vanity beauty contest is often universally derided as "classless," but the actions that bring on the jeering (policies of the US elite) are never referred to as such...

I think Miss USA will get through a little jeering just fine, something we can't say for all those affected by ridiculous US policies on immigration and countless other matters...

You would have a point, except that the booing supposedly happened since Miss mexico
did not go through to the top 5.

So to "classless" we may have to add "sore losers", too.

Those on the left, like More Axe, apparently, have a long history of considering any and every venue a legitimate platform to air their views. Miss USA did not go to Mexico to represent the policies of the Bush Administration. Odds are, she loathes them like most of us do. To make her--a 20 year old kid--a metaphor is pitiless and hateful.

How's this for "a little jeering," More Axe: I hope your daughter is one day placed in a humiliating situation in front of countless people. What goes around, comes around.
