The number of mergers and acquisitions involving Latin American companies has increased dramatically this year to the tune of nearly $70 billion so far. These business deals are not unidirectional and include Latin American firms initiating the buying (e.g. Argentine-based Tenaris SA purchasing U.S.-owned Maverick Tube Corporation), Latin American companies being bought (e.g. the growth of Telefonica), and restructuring without foreign presence (e.g. Brazilian-based Tele Norte Leste SA).
