Peru: Cameron Diaz apologizes for fashion faux pas

Actress Cameron Diaz issued an apology for carrying a bag embroidered with a quote from Mao Zedong during a visit to Peru last week. Some Peruvians viewed the bag as offensive based on the still fresh wounds from the country’s civil conflict with Shining Path guerillas during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Said Diaz (whose father is Cuban American) in her mea culpa:

"I sincerely apologize to anyone I may have inadvertently offended. The bag was a purchase I made as a tourist in China and I did not realize the potentially hurtful nature of the slogan printed on it."
