* Colombia: The Colombian government and FARC guerillas agreed to create a truth commission that will aim to clarify “the truth in all events” of the decades-long armed conflict.
* Cuba: The push to improve U.S.-Cuba relations hit a bump after the House of Representatives voted to keep travel restrictions against visiting the Caribbean island.
* Puerto Rico: A deal could be reached that might prevent creditors from suing the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, which is saddled with over $9 billion in debt.
* Peru: An environmental advocacy group denounced alleged that a trade pact between the U.S. and Peru has failed to prevent illegal logging in the South American country.

* Costa Rica: Costa Rica became the first Central American country to recognize same-sex civil unions following a ruling by a “regional” court.
* Peru: The U.S. Department of Treasury sanctioned Peru’s Shining Path guerillas for acting as a “criminal narco-terrorist organization responsible for trafficking cocaine throughout South America.”
* Mexico: A new report found that remittances are expected to surpass foreign direct investment as the top source of foreign exchange in Mexico.

* Latin America: Three locations each from Lima, Peru and Mexico City were named to this year’s list of the world’s top restaurants.
* Venezuela: Venezuela’s oil minister has sought allies outside of the OPEC cartel in order to stabilize oil prices and improve a worsening domestic economy.
* El Salvador: 635 people were killed in El Salvador in May, which makes it the worst month for homicides since the end of the country’s civil war in 1992.
* U.S.: A new study found that “among full-time workers, the median pay for black and Latino retail salespeople is about 75% of that for white salespeople.”

* U.S.: Roughly one out of every four victims of killed by police in the U.S. is Latino according to “an analysis of public records, local news reports and (The) Guardian reporting.”
* Venezuela: Several thousand people in Venezuela and in major cities participated in anti-government rallies on Saturday though the main opposition coalition abstained from participating.
* Cuba: The U.S. and Cuba are one step closer to reopening their respective embassies after the Caribbean island was removed last Friday from a blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism.
* Mexico: Roberta Jacobson, the highest-ranking State Department official for Latin America, will reportedly be nominated as the next U.S. ambassador to Mexico.
