* Uruguay: Leading presidential opposition candidate Luis Lacalle Pou claimed that if he wins Sunday’s election he would repeal Uruguay’s landmark project to legally grow and sell marijuana.
* Puerto Rico: A U.S. federal district judge cited a 1972 Supreme Court ruling and upheld Puerto Rico’s ban on same-sex marriage.
* Venezuela: U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad al-Hussein called on Venezuelan authorities to free imprisoned politician Leopoldo Lopez.
* U.S.: U.S. immigration officials last week extended Temporary Protected Status benefits for an estimated 87,000 Honduran and Nicaraguan migrants until July 2016.
