The problem with illegal arms flow from the USA to Mexico is not that it is fueling the narco wars, even if an effective ban was put in place, a capital rich international smuggling organization such as the Mexican cartels can find all the firepower they want in the world arms market.

The problem that the US arms smuggling represents to the Mexican government is that they have spent the last 100 years un arming the populace in order to prevent another revolucion, or in other words, preventing the citizens from exercising their democratic rights.
