* U.S.: For the second straight weekend “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” topped the box office. (I wish I were lying but unfortunately that's not the case).
* U.S.: Could Chicago’s “Latino character” be a deciding factor in the city’s 2016 Olympics bid?
* Mexico: Yet another case of the country’s crime wave as gunmen killed six at a family party in the border city of Ciudad Juarez.
* Chile: The country’s presidential election may be over a year away but conservative Sebastian Piñera leads in the latest polls.

I just got back from Chile and I'm not surprised to hear that Piñera is doing well in the polls. There is pretty serious concern around Santiago that a global economic recession is on the way and that Chile may not have made enough progress during its golden age of sky high copper prices and economic expansion.
ReplyDeleteThat said, Ricardo Lagos has been getting most of the attention from the Chilean media lately, mostly because he has become pretty harsh in his criticism of Bachelet.
Interesting observation.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the poll results influenced President Bachelet's announcement this morning to increase liquidty for chile's banks.
