Brazilian and Colombian Telenovelas are the greatest:real, down to earth, fashionable , educative and funny.

That "Ugly Betty" is based on the original colombian blockbuster "Betty,La Fea" aired in Latin America in 1999.It was a complete success in
    Panama,Latin America and Spain.

Spain made its own version of the original colombian telenovela:
"La Fea Espanola" (The Ugly Spaniard).

    Another colombian blockbuster was
    "Pedro ,El Escamoso"(Pedro,The
Snobbish)aired in 2001-2002 in Latin America.

  2. Though I don't tend to watch novelas I was an avid fan of Betty la Fea and enjoyed it every step of the way. (I still have not forgotten the shock of seeing Betty getting a "makeover" and not looking as "ugly" as she used to).

I, for one, am looking forward to the premiere of "Ugly Betty" on September 28th. We'll have to see if it captures the U.S. public's imagination much like the original "Betty" did in latin america.
