-Contributed by Erwin Cifuentes. Oakland Ross reports in the Toronto Star on the growth of Hispanics in Canada and the benefits and problems they have in assimilating to Canadian life. Approximately 700,000 people of Hispanic background reside in Canada, mostly in Ontario, and they represent 20 different nationalities. (The Star)

Me gustaria vivir en Canada por un tiempo.
ReplyDeleteEH!!! eso lo hare en mi otra vida ;)
I had the opportunity to live in Toronto for almost two years and what I can say is that I did see exactly what this article talks about.
ReplyDeleteIt is also odd because other Canadian statistics point to the fact that the large mayority of Spanish speakers in Canada are Colombian.
So it is odd to think that not even Colombians like to "hang out" together.
On the other hand, I do enjoy the fact that "Latinos" are not restricting themselves to "Little Latin America". In Toronto, "Little India" or "Chinatown" are, yes, pictoresque, but they still smell of a society that refuses to blend in with Canada as a whole.
We may grow and grow... but this country is closer to speak chinese than spanish!
ReplyDeleteThe influence of Spanish culture (from many different countries) has lead me to take time away from work in Toronto and live in South America. The vibrant and passionate people have regenerated my love of life!
