Today’s Video: Nicaragua’s economy - stable or the next Iceland?

Last month, Foreign Policy (FP) examined five countries that could follow Iceland’s recent path of financial and economic ruin. The article looked at Nicaragua and blasted President Daniel Ortega’s increasingly authoritarian tendencies. The article added that the U.S. recession, declining remittances and the falling price of coffee serve as a heavy double whammy against Nicaragua’s economy.

In sharp contrast to FP’s assessment, a report from Worldfocus surmises that Ortega’s pro-business policy has buoyed the Nicaraguan economy. A recent piece shown on the program concludes that growth in tourism and increased investment from the U.S. has helped Nicaragua. (In all fairness, reporter Lynn Sherr also describes the political instability that has rocked the country).

So is Nicaragua’s economy on the rise, on the brink of collapse, or is the glass half-full/half-empty? What do you think?

If you think that Hugo Chavez is a madman with a Speech Full of Hate against the United States, Colombia, Israel, etc ...

Then wait until you review many TV Videos of Daniel Ortega.

That Guy is a Super Real Madman and Paranoid ranting against the U. S., Colombia and others.

The most absurd accusations, the most absurd threats, the most absurd inventions and lies.

And he asks for lands and islands that have been in posetion of Colombia for centuries and acknowledged by Nicaragua, the United States and others in Serious International Treaties.

This guy accuses Alvaro Uribe of ridiculous assessination plots.

I do not know about the economy. But this Daniel Ortega is a serious and dangerous madman.

Poor Nicaragua !!

Vicente Duque, us Nicaraguans do not need you sympathy. Leave that somewhere else. Sympathey does not bring prosperity.

As for Chavez, believe it or not, he speaks truthfully of how imperialistic the U.S. is. Why do you think Nicaragua is "poor" as you state it to be.

The U.S. has interviened more than twice throughout our history, starting wars, invading our shores and cities, and claiming neautrality on our land while using our natural resources without permission.

Thats called intervention and thats what Chavez resents about the U.S. They (the gov't) act imperialistic neutralizing land all over the world.

How you speak is ignorant and full of blasfammy. Do some research and them state a fact.
